How the Google Analytics Feed Works

Google Analytics takes basic information from a feed to create its analytics and reports. The outputs are provided in a specific feed, and has provides additional information inside of the addTransaction tag that is used by Google Analytics. Google Analytics in turn receives the feed, captures the required information from the feed in its JScript logs, and processes the information for reports.

The additional fields added to the addTransaction tag are:

Order Number

Shipping Total

Order Total

City

State

Country

Google tracks the necessary information using a Google Analytics account number, and an affiliation.

For Google Analytics to accept the feed and provide reports, you need a Google Analytics account. Without the account and affiliation information, your organization will not be able to use the Google Analytics package.
