Worksheet

Use this worksheet to plan your stored value item configuration before you start building them.

For more information about configuring stored value items, refer to Product Configuration - Stored Value Items.

Gift cards and certificates are created using stored value items. Stored value items hold the funds that customers can use to make purchases.

There are six types of stored value items that you can create:

Purchase: Customers can purchase a stored value item in any amount. They can’t add more funds to the card after the initial purchase.

Purchase + Reload: Customers can purchase and reload a stored value item in any amount.

Purchase Fixed: Customers can purchase a stored value item in specified amounts. They can’t add more funds to the card after the initial purchase.

Purchase Fixed + Reload Fixed: Customers can purchase and reload a stored value item in specified amounts.

Reload: Customers can only add funds to an existing stored value item.

Reload Fixed: Customers can only add specified amounts to an existing stored value item.

Here are some of the frequently used fields when creating or configuring stored value items:

Name: The name of the stored value item. This appears on reports.

Displayed Label: What Desktop users see when searching for stored value items. This defaults to the ‘Name’ when you click ‘Create’.

Short Description: This is what customers see online.

If this field is blank, the ‘Name’ appears.

Description: This is used for additional information. This doesn’t appear to customers.

Type: Select one of the types as described in this worksheet.

Gateway: Pick Gift Card. In order for customers to use their stored value item, you will need to configure a payment method and assign it to the various items available for sale. Select the same gateway you selected on the stored value item when creating the payment method.

Amount: The value(s) of the gift card that can be purchased or reloaded. You can provide more than one option. The amounts display for any fixed type, and customers can select the appropriate amount. For the non-fixed types, all amounts appear, but customers enter their preferred amount.

Expiry: The expiration date of the gift card. Ensure that it’s legal for gift cards to have an expiration date in your jurisdiction.

Ticket Template: You can print on a piece of ticket stock, email the gift card to your customers, or use a dedicated card printer. On your ticket template, ensure you include both the Gift Certificates Certificate/Card Number and Gift Certificates/Card Redemption Number computed values to ensure customers can use their gift cards online and in-person.

Payment Methods: The payment methods customers can use to purchase their gift cards.

Delivery Methods: The delivery methods customers can use to obtain their gift cards.

GL Code [1-2]: The general ledger code for the gift card balances.

GL Description[1-2]: Additional fields for the general ledger.

You need to put the stored value item on sale on the Stored Value Items|Calendar page. If you selected Purchase or Purchase Fixed as the 'Type’ but want customers to check any balances, you also need to ensure that you add an entry in the On Reload field.
