There are three types of alert messages: errors, warnings and information.:

Error

Error messages are generally used for system errors. To resolve these errors, you may have to contact your system administrator.

infoIcon

Information

Information messages inform you of an error that you can correct, such as failing to fill in a mandatory field (identified by a red asterisk) or using invalid characters. To continue, you must resolve the issue.

When an information message appears, an error icon (mandatory) displays next to the field(s) in question. To view the details of the error, hold your mouse over the icon to display a short description of the error message as shown in the example below:

Warning

Warning messages prompt you to confirm the action you are performing. You can:

Click 'OK' to proceed.

Click 'Cancel' to return to the application without completing the action.

The default alert messages are listed in Appendix A - Default Alert Messages.

Mandatory Fields

Certain tasks or actions require specific, mandatory fields to be completed. The mandatory fields are identified with a red asterisk (*) to the right of field.

If a mandatory field has not been filled in, you will not be able to proceed with the task. An information message will appear to indicating which field(s) must be filled in. An error icon (mandatory) also appears next to the field(s) in question. To view the details of the error, hover over the icon to see a short description of the message.
