Creating a Digital Ticket Delivery Method

Tips

Known Limitations

Digital tickets are a simple alternative to hardcopy or print-at-home (PDF) tickets that allow customers to quickly find their tickets for easy scanning.

Digital tickets are accessed only through a customer’s account and cannot be generated as a printed ticket.

Before you can use digital tickets, Support has to enable the listing, streaming and digital ticket integration for you.

Considerations

There are some important things you should consider before using digital tickets:

Digital tickets can only be accessed through the purchaser’s online account.

Until we complete the ticket transfer feature (coming end of 2021), customers will not be able to forward their digital tickets to someone else.

Customers need internet access at the venue to log into their accounts and access their digital tickets. Digital tickets are not available offline.

The only exception to this is if the customer has also chosen to store their tickets in their Apple Wallet. The existing Apple Wallet functionality (digital wallet) works as it did before. We will  tighten the user experience in a future release.

Only English is currently supported.
There are some hardcoded English labels - Section, Row and Seat.

Digital tickets are currently only supported for event tickets – not passes, miscellaneous items nor charges.

The layout and content of a digital ticket is not configurable.
This is primarily because a digital ticket is a functional item optimized for scanning. It is not the place to convey a lot of information.

Rules

Digital Tickets Need a Customer with an Online Account
Because customers can only access digital tickets through their online accounts, a customer with an online account must be on order.

Digital Tickets Cannot Have a Shipping Customer or a Shipping Address
Digital tickets help track who holds tickets at any given time. The use of shipping customers and addresses does not allow for that. The upcoming ticket transfer feature will let customers give tickets to another person.

Tips

Accessing Digital Tickets
Customers view their digital tickets by clicking the View Tickets link in any of the following places:

My Account home page.

Online order confirmation page.

Order confirmation email.

View Tickets Link
The View Tickets link appears on the My Account home page when the digital ticket integration has been enabled. Customers can click it to view their upcoming events, even if they don't have any digital tickets. The View Tickets link on the online order confirmation page and in the order confirmation email only appear if the delivery method is Digital.

Deep Link for Easier Access
The link that customers receive in their email confirmations can be used in any context to direct customers to the login page and redirect them to their digital tickets. There's nothing specific to the customer or order in the link.
Add the link to a pre-show email or post it in your lobby as a scannable QR code to make accessing digital tickets easier.

Known Limitations

Non-Event Items
Digital tickets currently only supported for events. Tickets for passes, miscellaneous items and charges cannot be generated as digital tickets.

Language
Only English is currently supported. The Section, Row and Seat labels are hardcoded in English. We’re investigating ways we can resolve this in a future release.

Exchanges
If a non-digital ticket is exchanged for a digital ticket, the exchange confirmation email will not display the View Tickets link. Customers will access their tickets using the View Tickets links on the exchange confirmation page or the My Account page.

Unpaid Tickets
Unpaid digital ticket may not generate when they are printed.

Shipping Customers/Contacts
If you add a ‘Shipping Contact’ or ‘Shipping Address’ directly to an order (Order|Customer page) without setting a ‘Shipping Customer’ (Order|Summary page), then try to create the order, an error message appears. You must then restart the order. This is not an issue if a ‘Shipping Customer’ is used.

Customers Without Online Users
If you attach a customer with an online user to an order, and remove the user before the order is created, the validation will not happen and the order will be created.

Changing a Customer on an Existing Order
Changing the customer on an existing, printed order that uses the digital ticket delivery method will not move the tickets to the new customer. Do not change customers on existing orders with digital tickets.

Gates
Gates do not currently appear on digital tickets. The stand, aisle, entrance and level do appear.
