Before creating and configuring upsell and add-on articles, you should make a plan:
1.Decide which items are going to trigger upsell and add-on articles, and what the upsell or add-on items will be. Remember:
a.Upsell items replace the user's original selection. This feature is most often used to upsell a single event to a bundle or a membership.
b.Add-on items are added to the user's original selection. This feature is most often used to add a miscellaneous item to an order.
2.If you are only promoting one or two items in your upsell and add-on articles, make the most of your real estate (and save on configuration effort) by using deep-links to the upsell/add-on items instead of a search widget.
Warning If you deep link to an upsell or add-on item within the article, you must include the target = _parent parameter in your link using the following syntax: label |
3.If you are promoting three or four upsell or add-on items, consider using the Search Results - Detailed and Search Results - Detailed, Grid Layout search widgets. These search widgets display an image and additional information. For more information, refer to Inserting the Search Results Widgets.
4.Add some text and images to your upsell and add-on articles to explain why the user should consider selecting the item(s).
5.Do not overload the user with too many upsell or add-on items.
6.Use the 'Sales Type' field on all items to identify which items are going to be offered as upsells or add-ons, then filter the search results in your upsell and add-on articles by 'Sales Type'.
For example, if you have many miscellaneous items on sale, but only some of them are going to be offered as add-ons, setting the 'Sales Type' field to Add-On and then filtering the search criteria by 'Sales Type' in your add-on article is an easy way to ensure that only the correct items are offered as add-ons. 'Sales Type', 'Upsell Article' and 'Upsell Article' can be defined on the following items/pages:
a.Event Configuration - Events|Basic Page
b.Product Configuration - Bundles|Details Page
c.Product Configuration - Miscellaneous Items|Details Page
d.Product Configuration - Stored Value Items|Details Page
e.Funds Management - Gifts|Details Page
7.When offers with add-ons are added to an order:
a.Only one add-on article will be presented to the user, in the following order of precedence:
i.Bundles
ii.Events
iii.Miscellaneous items
b.If there are two events only one add-on will be presented for one of the events.
